The aim of this study is to see whether the mothers’ expectations and anxiety change after sending their children to elementary school. The questionnaire consists of 21 items on the parents’ consciousness and free description about changes in consciousness after entering elementary school. We administered it to 48 Japanese mothers of elementary school children. Mothers became to watch over their children without interfering with their activities as they grew older. Mothers’ anxiety was reduced within a few years after their children started school. But, working mothers still had concerns about themselves such as time management in their daily life and the difficulty of engaging in PTA.
Long-term outlook in conjunction with mothers’ working status needs to be considered when developing parent support programs during the school transition. Nishizaka, S., Ayano, S., Gondo, K., & Murakami, Y.
