This paper’s purpose is to characterize the style and design features of the often abstractly defined Harajuku “kawaii” fashion. 50 images were chosen and databased by analyzing fashion image, taste, and level on the five-point scale. Results of the research found that every piece of clothing, from fashion accessories to socks and shoes, were all original and creative items - garments were colorful, often with glossy materials and containing various patterns – all with an avant-garde shape. The fashion style was mixed with unexpected and surprising choices, often using kitsch and surreal images and items that most would hesitate to use. Ultimately, Harajuku kawaii fashion makes even un-matching and irregular elements that are far considered fashionable to be seen as hip and mode.(宮武 恵子,Peeraya Sripian ,大倉 典子)
