A hanten is a simple traditional Japanese outer garment composed of straight-cut fabrics, and easy to put on. This study explored the production of outer garments that can be put on over both Western garments and kimonos, based on the hanten structure. The finished garments were roomy with a kimono-like collar and sleeves, and flares on the center back and sides. They were both light and airy, taking advantage of the fabrics’ characteristics and combining kimono- and dress-making techniques. Based on the positive response, the study was considered to have successfully proposed a new outer garment concept.髙橋由子,宮武恵子,増田貴史,杉山歩,田中淑江
